Historic Milestone: First Female President Elected Unanimously to Lead Sri Lanka Sports Journalists Association
In a landmark moment for Sri Lankan sports media, the Sri Lanka Sports Journalists Association (SLSJA) has unanimously elected Senior Sports Producer Susanthi Jeewani Premachandra of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) as its first-ever female President. This marks a historic milestone in the association’s history, symbolizing progress, inclusivity, and recognition of women’s leadership in sports journalism.
Alongside her appointment, all office bearers were also elected unanimously, reflecting strong unity and shared commitment among members to advance the profession.
Karuppiah Ramakrishnan, Founder of LNSPORTS and Hope Sri Lanka, was elected as General Secretary, bringing over two decades of local and international media experience to the role. Sampath C. Perera, Senior Sports Program Producer, former SLRC Producer, and current Head of Production at LNSPORTS and Sporty.lk, was appointed as the Treasurer.
Buddhika Dunusinghe of SLRC was named National Organizer, while Neville Victor Anthony of Express Newspapers, Nuwan Karunarathne of Kelidhara Magazine, and Shanmugaratnam Saksivarnan of Swarnavahini were elected as Senior Vice Presidents.
Chathuka Divashana, an accomplished media professional currently based in Australia and formerly of ITN and Lakhanda Radio, was elected as the Foreign Secretary.
The newly appointed leadership team has pledged to strengthen ethical journalism, foster professional development, and enhance global collaboration, ensuring a brighter future for sports journalism in Sri Lanka.
